The Narrows

A few weeks ago I listened to the CD-Audio version of Michael Connelly's The Narrows. This novel brings together threads from several of Connelly's books, starting with former L.A. Detective - now private investigator - Harry Bosch, protaganist of a series of nine previous mysteries. Bosch is investigating the death of former FBI profiler Terry McCaleb, dead of apparent heart failure. Was it suicide, or was it the work of The Poet, the villian of the 1996 thriller of the same name?

The book features a few too many coincidences and deductive leaps that stretch credibility, but the story is so compelling, and the character of Harry Bosch is so believable, that you willingly follow along to the violent climax.

A few surprises will keep you guessing right up until the final chapter, and the narration by Len Cariou will pull you into the story and not let go until the very end. Solid.
