Charles de Lint

Charles de Lint is a Canadian author of short stories and novels. His work is often referred to as "urban fantasy" because it takes place (at least partially) in the "real" world, as well as in the world of Faery. Many of his most popular works are set in the imaginary city of Newford (based on Ottawa, Ontario), and combine elements of Native American folklore and Celtic magic into a unique and compelling world all its own.

The first de Lint book I read was his "The Ivory and The Horn" short story collection, and it was a very moving experience. Though each is a story in its own right, most are based on a common setting (the aforementioned Newford) and a common group of characters. His short stories remain my favorites.
